A diamond ring can be one of the most precious pieces of jewellery that you own, which is why it is essential to keep it looking as radiant as when you bought it. You can speak to your local jeweller for helpful advice on how to protect your diamonds from wear and tear.
Your local jeweller will have all of the professional tools required to best maintain, clean and polish your diamond jewellery so it is always best to call them for advice and avoid doing it yourself with basic home ingredients to avoid scratching or damaging your metals or gems.
Don’t forget to have your ring, earrings and necklaces professionally checked by your local jeweller every year. They will be able to make sure that the prongs are still secure and your diamond can’t fall out. If you are not confident cleaning your jewellery yourself, take it to your local jeweller and have it professionally cleaned. All you have to do is drop it off and they will return it to you with a renewed shine. You can even wait for it while it’s being cleaned!

There are a lot of myths and half-truths out there about diamonds and almost everyone has an opinion on them. Here are a few diamond myths and the facts that go with them.
Larger Diamonds are Better Than Smaller Diamonds
Size is only one factor in diamond quality. The main considerations are the diamond’s cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. Larger diamonds may have a poor cut, colour or clarity that makes it a lesser quality than a small diamond whereas a small quality diamond can cost more than a large, low-clarity, low-colour and poorly cut diamond.
Fake Diamonds Look the Same as Real Diamonds
Fake diamonds may look the same as a real diamond to the untrained eye, but a jeweller will always be able to tell the difference.
Real diamonds are flawed, but fake diamonds are not. When you look at your diamond with a 1200x microscope, you should be able to see tiny flaws. These are called inclusions and they exist because real diamonds are naturally formed.
Diamonds are Formed From Coal
This depth that coal is found at and the time it was formed are not consistent with forming diamonds. Evolutionists and geologists say that diamonds were formed around 1 to 3 billion years ago, yet coal wasn’t formed until around 300 to 400 million years ago.
Diamonds are also formed under very high temperatures of 900 to 1300 degrees Celsius, and under high pressures that exists 140 to 190 kilometres under the Earth’s surface. On the other hand, coal is rarely found deeper than 1.3 kilometres underground.
Diamonds are the Most Expensive Gemstone
The most expensive gemstones are the rarest ones. Diamonds, rubies, emeralds, jadeite, and alexandrites are among the most expensive gemstones due to their popularity and rarity. The price of any gemstone is also influenced by cut, colour, clarity and carat weight.

Choosing your fiancé’s diamond engagement ring can be intimidating. This is a ring that she will wear every day for the rest of her life and along with your ring it is one of the most important symbols that you two will share. Follow these five helpful tips for picking the perfect ring to help relieve any pre-engagement stresses.
1 – Consider Colour
Most women will wear one dominant metal colour like gold or silver across their entire jewellery range. A good place to start here is by matching the ring to her current jewellery colour range.
2 – Style
It is worthwhile noting the style of her current jewellery collection. For example, is her style bold and contemporary or delicate and antique? There are many different styles to suit many different personalities. If you’re not sure, take some pictures of her jewellery while she’s not looking and take it to your selected jewellery store.
3 – Picking The Right Size
If the ring doesn’t quite fit you will be able to have the ring resized, but she will be most impressed if you have the ring fitted to her finger prior to popping the question. If she currently wears a ring on her ring finger then you should borrow it while she is not using it and give it to your jewellery to judge the right size and fit.
4 – Consider Her Lifestyle
Does she have a job that places restrictions on the kind of jewellery she wears? If so then a simple diamond encrusted band will do.
5 – Find The Right Jeweller
The right jeweller will give you advice that suits your bride-to-be’s style and your budget. Look for a jewellery store that makes you feel comfortable and has pleasant, helpful staff. If they’re committed to good customer service, they will work hard to find the right diamond engagement ring for you.

Cubic zirconia jewellery collections have dramatically increased in popularity in recent years and often share similar characteristics to real diamonds, although they are not nearly as valuable. Made from a mix of natural and unnatural materials, cubic zirconia looks remarkably similar to a natural diamond but will not yield the same brilliance as that of a real diamond ring.
What Is A Cubic Zirconia?
Cubic zirconia is a man-made diamond substitute. It is inspired by natural zirconium oxide, which is too rare for commercial use. But German and Soviet scientists melted zirconium oxide and yttrium oxide at temperatures around 2,700 degrees Celsius to create cubic zirconia – an artificial diamond.
How Is Cubic Zirconia Different To Real Diamonds?
There are a few key features of cubic zirconia that jewellers look for to distinguish them from real diamonds:
- Hardness: Diamonds are one of the hardest naturally occurring material and are about 500 times harder than cubic zirconia.
- Weight: Cubic zirconia weighs around 1.7 times more than diamond.
- Transparency: Latest technology means that cubic zirconia is virtually flawless whereas diamonds can show impurities because they are natural.
- Colour: Cubic zirconia is often entirely colourless, unless artificially coloured by the jeweller. Diamonds are rarely 100% colourless and usually have a hint of yellow or brown.
- Thermal Conductivity: Cubic zirconia is a thermal insulator whereas diamond is one of the most efficient thermal conductors, with the thermal conductivity exceeding that of most metals. This allows distinguishing diamond from cubic zirconia with the right instruments.
