Customising A Diamond Ring
If you’re looking to get engaged, consider buying your beloved a custom made and perfectly designed engagement ring. A custom made ring means that your ring will be one of a kind and is completely unique to both of you. If this sounds like something she’ll love, a custom design may be right for you.
The first thing to consider is the style of band. It’s important to tailor it to suit both your tastes, as she will be wearing it forever! If you’re not sure of her tastes, your best bet is to head for her jewellery box and see what her favourite pieces look like. The colouring of the pieces will tell you whether she’s more suited to yellow gold, white gold, rose gold or platinum.
Next, choose your setting. The setting is the manner in which a diamond is set into the band of the ring, and is extremely important because it affects how everything looks. There are seven different settings - including bezel, bar, claw and pave - so you definitely have to do your research before making this decision.
If this is a ring that the two of you are designing together, ring size shouldn’t be an issue! But if this is a surprise, you’ll have to be extra sneaky about getting it right for her ring finger. You might have to explore her jewellery box again or ask her friend or sister for a size. Don’t panic though - if it’s not right on the day, you can always get it resized later.
And, of course, you have to consider the diamond itself. What size and shape is best going to suit her hand and lifestyle? If you’ve inherited an engagement ring from your mother or grandmother, it would be a fantastic idea to re-purpose the diamond into a new engagement ring that is a link between generations.
Perhaps most importantly, choose an appropriate budget and stick to it. An engagement ring is a very special piece of jewellery, but it shouldn’t send you into serious debt you struggle to pay back.
